We are often asked whether our faith
is strong enough to withstand bad times. But have we ever considered asking
ourselves whether our faith is strong enough to survive good times?
In the book The Problem of Pain, the
author wrote that God whispers to us during our happy days but shouts in our
painful situations. When we do not pay attention when He whispers, He may use
shouts to get our focus. People glide away from their faith not only during bad
times but also when their life is good. For them, it is a time when God is not
needed. We usually interpret His blessings as a sign of our goodness and not an
indication of His kindness. We always presume that we are worthy of everything
pleasant that happened to us but we fail to realize that He is telling us
something about Himself through the good deeds and incentives that He lets us
enjoy.
The kindness of our God should be
used as an opportunity to obey Him and not an occasion to disregard His
existence. We should recognize that our conviction towards our faith should be
toughened, not weakened by His astonishing gifts and blessings.
When problems enter our lives, we
pray and beg for God’s help and assistance. Once He answered our prayers, we
thank Him but we slowly drift away from His presence and we only remember Him
if another tragedy will struck our lives. In times when our life is good, we
should never stop remembering Him, for these blessings that come our way all
belongs to Him.
Let us remind ourselves not to abuse
the goodness of our God. Treasure Him not only when you need Him. But cherish
Him … everyday, every minute, and every second of your existence.
